Recommended hotels for our October 2013 reunion

It’s not too soon to be making airplane and hotel reservations for our October 24-27, 2013, reunion in Vienna. Here is a list of hotels we have personally visited that we can especially recommend.

Hotel Konig von Ungarn (Hotel King of Hungary), Schulerstraße 10. This small, cozy, wonderful old-world hotel is one block down the side street from Stafansdom (the cathedral), rates 140-220€ , website: http://www.kvu.at/en/home, phone: 011-43 1 515 840.

Hotel Romischer Kaiser, Annagasse 16, located just across the street from where our IES cafeteria was located in 1961. It’s a lovely hotel and highly rated by all who have stayed here, website: http://www.bestwestern-ce.com/bwc/hotel.ct?hotelId=89023, rates 199-249€ , phone: 011-43 1 512 77 510.

Hotel Mercure Wien Centrum, Fleischmarkt 1a. Rooms start at 119€ per night at this mid-priced hotel located several blocks from Stefansdom, website: http://www.mercure.com/gb/hotel-0781-mercure-wien-zentrum/index.shtml, phone: 011-43 1 534 600.

Pension Neuer Markt, Seilergasse 9, a quiet side street a few minutes’ walk from the IES Center on Johannesgasse. This bed-and-breakfast-style hostelry gets good reviews in TripAdvisor at around $165, website: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g190454-d235693-Reviews-Pension_Neuer_Markt-Vienna.html, phone: 011-43 1 512 231 6.

Hotel am Konzerthaus, Am Heumarkt 35-37, located just outside the Ring right across the street from the Konzerthaus and Akademie Theatre with 209 rooms. website: http://hotel-am-konzerthaus.h-rez.com/, about 139€ , toll-free phone: 1-866-332-3590.

If you really want to relive our 1961 trip across the Atlantic, Queen Mary 2 is departing New York City on September 22, 2013, headed for Southampton so you can spend about three weeks in Europe before our reunion in Vienna!
