Crossing the English Channel

Photo by George Trask. On the day we departed London, Tuesday, February 14, 1961, we boarded buses that took us over the course of the next two weeks all the way to Vienna. These same buses also took us in the early spring to Italy and to Spain at the end of the semester in June.

At Dover, England, on the first day of the bus trip we and the buses boarded a ferry to cross over the English Channel. The photo above shows IES students helping the drivers rearrange our luggage on top of the bus before boarding the ferry. The white cliffs of Dover are in the background.

We had a glorious view of the white cliffs as the ferry departed on that beautiful winter day.
